So What Is Tinnitus Retraining Therapy?

TRT is a coping or dealing strategy for tinnitus. It does not actually reduce your symptoms but more it seeks to reduce your perception of those symptoms. TRT contains counseling and basically use’s sound enrichment to help you have a better reaction to the sound.

The basic premise of TRT is that tinnitus cannot be cured and can only be coped with. This is a flawed concept as you will soon see if you have a good look around this site.

And How Does It Work?

It uses a combination of teaching and sound therapy (noise generators). The idea behind it is that at some point, tinnitus was not a problem to you.

But over time, your reaction to the symptoms grew in intensity to the extent that you sought help. After undergoing TRT, your perception of the symptoms go back to the way they were. Basically they are put “to the back of your mind”, so to speak.

But Does It Work?

TRT doe not in any way cure tinnitus but it does help you cope with it as explained above. There are around eight hundred professionals around the world who are qualified to give this type of therapy and it can be very effective but it cannot cure your tinnitus.

What Are The Alternatives

I believe that TRT is wrong due to the fundamental flawed concept that tinnitus cannot be cured. This is totally untrue, in my opinion.

Although tinnitus requires hearing damage, not all people with hearing damage have tinnitus. This means that to get tinnitus you need a variety of other factors. Remove all these factors and you can totally remove the symptoms of tinnitus, that dreaded eternal ringing in the ear.

So Whats The Answer To This Post?

The answer is no, TRT cannot cure you tinnitus but may help you cope with it a lot better. TRT is also one of the the first thnigs that a doctor is likely to give you when you are first diagnosed with tinnitus.
